When we use the cartridges needle system while tattooing, we use one machine with multiple needle configuration cartridges. This is the reason why they mostly look identical at the first glance. For example a 5 round liner and a 9 round liner cartridge and 7 round shader or 9 round shader etc. but this is true to identify same size magnum and curved magnum configurations.

You can differentiate cartridges only if you  magnify looping them or placing them in a dedicated spot on your tattoo station during tattooing. And this manner slows the tattoo process down not to talk about the frustration it causes and we need the right tool for the right job.
